Blending Bottom-Up and Top-Down Approaches in Practice
You're already doing both. Here's the framework that makes it intentional.
A free eBook for paediatric OTs who want to understand how bottom-up sensory foundations and top-down occupation-based practice connect - and how the SenseUp Model 360 bridges both in every session.
You don’t need more strategies. You need clarity on:
- what you’re seeing
- what you’re targeting
- and how it links to real-life outcomes
This is what changes everything in practice.
Because most of us are already blending. What's missing is the framework that makes the blend work.
Evidence-grounded. Written for the way paediatric OTs actually think and work. Completely free. No credit card required.Â
You are one step away from your practical, evidence-based guide to integrating sensory foundations with real-life occupational outcomes.
By downloading this eBook you'll receive a short email series from Kerry with clinical insights for paediatric OTs. Unsubscribe any time.
Does this sound familiar?
You finish a session feeling like it went well.
The sensory work was on point. The child was regulated, making gains during therapy.
Then the family tells you: nothing is different at home.
You know this message. Most paediatric OTs do.
It's not a compliance problem. It's a design problem.
Gains at a sensory or motor level don't automatically transfer to function. They need to be intentionally connected to what the child wants and needs to do outside of therapy: dressing, eating, play, school, independence.
Most OTs are already running both approaches. But without a clear framework connecting them, the two run in parallel rather than in integration. The family never sees the full benefit.
The SenseUp Model 360 is the framework that bridges the gap.
It's not about choosing between sensory work and occupation-based practice.
It's about understanding how they interact - at every level, in every session - so that what you're already doing produces outcomes that carry over.
Built on Ayres Sensory Integration theory, polyvagal theory and 28+ years of paediatric clinical practice by Kerry Evetts, OT, Gold Coast.

I need this - Take me to my FREE CopyWhat OTs say after working through the SenseUp framework:
"The SenseUp Model completely changed how I assess and intervene. I went from avoiding complex sensory cases to being the person colleagues refer their most challenging clients to."Â
- Michael, School-Based OT, Victoria
Â
"I finally understand the neuroscience behind what I was seeing clinically. Parents trust me more because I can explain things with confidence, and my interventions are so much more effective because I understand what I'm actually targeting."
- Sarah, Paediatric OT, Queensland
"As an already accomplished and experienced OT, TSAC has provided me with the missing puzzle pieces to feel confident in assessing and delivering OT services with a true sensory lens. Kerry is a wonderful teacher and I'd recommend this course to any new graduate or experienced therapists. "
- Kate C. OT
"I can now justify every sensory intervention to funding bodies with research evidence. My NDIS reports are stronger, my parents are more engaged, and most importantly, the children I work with are making real progress."
- Emma, Private Practice OT, New South Wales
Hi I'm Kerry,
Welcome to SenseUp!  My vision is for every sensory child to feel understood and supported.Â
I have identified as a 'sensory' OT since 2008. Although I had already been working as an OT for over a decade, learning about sensory processing created a monumental shift in me as a person and an OT.
I had always liked being an OT but when I started incorporating a sensory lens into my work in paeds I realised I truly loved being an OT. I had never felt as fulfilled and gratified in my work!
Fast forward 15 years with a published Masters thesis (in sensory modulation measures), immigration to Australia, and a life-threatening event - and I discovered my true calling - to teach - about sensory of course!Â
Now, I use what I've learned over my long and joyful OT career to support and nurture OTs who also want to be sensory-informed and sensory-affirming. I love to show OT's how they can transform their careers and their sensory clients' lives. That's why this eBook is free.
