The SenseUp Approach ™ is a trademarked method created by Kerry Evetts, an Occupational Therapist with a Masters degree and extensive clinical experience and advanced training in sensory integration theory and practice.  

The SenseUp Approach ™ is used by occupational therapists when providing an OT service to children with sensory challenges.

This approach embodies affirming and child-led interactions with young people, primarily 9 years and under, although still has relevance through the teen years.  

Theoretical Foundations 

The SenseUp Approach ™ draws on theory from several places including Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI ®), Polyvagal Theory by Stephen Porges, Interoception by Kelly Mahler and others.  

Core Features & Values include : 

  • Functional approach encompassing bottom-up and top-down features 
  • Individualised and tailored assessments and interventions guided by the SenseUp Model™ framework.

Training in The SenseUp Approach ™ 

SenseUp Training is primarily an online education solution for OTs, based in Australia, but accessible globally.  

Specifically, The SenseUp Approach™ Course is for occupational therapists working in paediatrics. We use a combination of self-study webinars and group webconferencing to learn sensory theory and instil into everyday practice.  

There are 6 modules including:  

  1. The Sensory Systems 
  2. The Sensory Motor Foundations for Functional Capacity
  3.  The Perceptual Motor Foundations for Functional Capacity
  4. Functional Capacity and Sensory Processing 
  5. Sense In Practice – Assessment and Intervention 
  6. Sense In Diversity – sensory considerations according to diagnostic groups

Sensory Theory:

  • Fortnightly pre-recorded webinars (60-90 minutes each) 
  • 28 webinars in total, spread across 6 series as per The SenseUp Model.

Translate Theory into Practice:

  • Fortnightly group Zoom calls to integrate your learning.
  • Approximately 20 group calls, each lasting 2 hours.

Sensory Practical:

Webinars & Workbooks: A Professional Toolkit

  • Each webinar includes a meticulously crafted workbook for comprehensive note-taking and reflection.

I am Kerry

I have identified as a 'sensory' OT since 2008. Although I had already been working as an OT for over a decade, learning about sensory processing created a monumental shift in me as a person and an OT.

I had always liked being an OT but when I started incorporating a sensory lens into my work in paeds I realised I truly loved being an OT. I had never felt as fulfilled and gratified in my work!

Fast forward 15 years with a published Masters thesis (in sensory modulation measures), immigration to Australia, and a life-threatening event - and I discovered my true calling - to teach - about sensory of course! 

Now, I use what I've learned over my long and joyful OT career to support and nurture OTs who also want to be sensory-informed and sensory-affirming. I love to show OT's how they can transform their careers and their sensory clients' lives. 

Kerry is very generous with her knowledge and is always there to guide us in a supportive manner. She’s a wonderful clinician, brilliant trainer, and just an amazing and kind person!
